Day 1- Nayapul to Tikhedunga

If you are staying in Pokhara hotel, then you have to wake up early around 8 am. Then it will be better for you to take a taxi to reach Nayapul. You have to pay nearly 1500 Nepali rupees as taxi fare. It’s the beginning place before reaching to Ghorepani Poonhill Trek.

The first day of trekking will be easy for you. You just have to walk in uphill along a gravel road. There are many restaurants which provide tasty lunches. You can stop there and fulfill your hungry appetite. The cost you have to pay is not very high. You have to pay around 300 rupees for the delicious food, rice, dal, and vegetables.

After having lunch, you can continue hiking for few hours until you reach Tikhedunga. You can stay in Tikhedunga Guest House to spend the night. It has a nice view in all around the places. The cost of staying is not very expensive. You will be served a delicious dinner in the restaurant. For plain rice, you have to pay around 150 rupees. Likewise, if order one plate of stir fried veg noodle you have to pay around 270 rupees. You can have a cup of tea for 50 rupees. The cost of water is around 60 rupees per liter. Overall, it will take 5 to 6 hours to reach Tikhedunga from Nayapul.

Day 2- Tikhedunga to Ghorepani

You should wake up early if you want to reach your next destination Ghorepani in time. After having an early breakfast, you can continue your hiking. The day 2 might be a quite difficult. You will be walking straight up towards the face of the mountain for nearly 4 hours. You will get to see beautiful white snow capped Annapurna peaks after walking few hours. The beautiful views might refresh your mind.

You can have a lunch at some of the food houses built there. You will love to eat sukuti and other spicy food along with rice and dal. You have to pay around 400 rupees for dal and bhat. After nearly 3 hours of walking, you will reach cold and beautiful green Ghorepani village.

You will find many lodges there. According to your comfort zone, you can stay any of the lodges. You will be paying around 300 rupees for a room. If you want to bath in a hot shower, then you have to pay extra 100 rupees.

The weather of Ghorepani Village is very cold. Sometimes, it rains and snowfall in Ghorepani.  During that time, the temperature will be really cold. It will be better for you to sleep early if you want to wake up early in the morning. Overall, it will take nearly 7 to 8 hours to reach Ghorepani from Tikhedunga. Your next trekking destination will be the Poonhill summit.

Day 3- Ghorepani to Poonhill, Ghorepani to Gandruk

If you wake up early at 5 am, you will be able to see the beautiful sunrise from Poon Hill. It will take nearly 45 minutes from Ghorepani to climb to the top of Poonhill. The refreshing view of Annapurna range will surely make your day enjoyable. You can take many beautiful pictures and video clip around the place of Poonhill. The trail will mostly be downhill. You will see some section of trail that is covered with snow and ice. It can be a scary part to walk on the cold ice. But if you walk slowly and carefully, you will not have any problem.

You can have lunch in the middle way of Ghorepani to Poonhill place. After few hours of walking, you will arrive at the beautiful town of Gandruk. The beautiful place Gandruk is a large village which has an amazing view of Annapurna range. After reaching Gandruk, you can stay in a hotel which is not very costly. Overall, it will take about 10 to 12 hours from Ghorepani to Poonhill and Gandruk.

Day 4- Gandruk to Deurali

In day 4, you will be moving from Gandruk to Deurali. The trail will mostly be downhill and stone steps. It will be really difficult to walk on stones. After walking down the hill, you will reach a small village and farms. There you can have your lunch. After few hours of walking, you will reach to Deurali. There will find a room in a hotel where you have a tasty dinner. It will take nearly 10 hours to reach Deurali from Gandruk.

Day 5- Deurali back to Pokhara

You can get back to Pokhara by taking a taxi or bus from the village name Pothana which has road access. Before getting back to Pokhara, you can go to the Annapurna Eco Village. The village is a beautiful place to visit, but you might have difficulty while bathing. You have to get your own shower water in Buck for taking bath.

2. TIMS Trekker’s Permit card

In a similar way, if you are capable of carrying your luggage by yourself, then it would be better not to take hire a porter. But if you want to walk with no weight on your back, then taking a porter with you is the best option you have.

The additional cost besides you will be spending in those 5 days will be of transportation. From the starting point of Pokhara, the estimated cost of the taxi will be 1500 rupees. When you will be getting back to Pokhara from Deurali, then you have to pay 600 rupees for your taxi fare.

You will also have to have a permit card cost which will be around 6500 to 6700. If you hire a guide and porter, then your trekking cost will be more. The per day cost of the guide will be around $20 to 25 and Porter will be around $15 to 20.

Renting Gear/Supplies

If you are going on a Ghorepani Poonhill trek and you don’t have necessary trekking supplies. Then you don’t need to worry, you will have enough option of either purchasing or renting the necessary supplies. You can buy new bottles of drinking water everywhere you find it. The price of a 1-liter bottle of drinking water will be 80 to 100 rupees. You can also refill drinking water in empty bottles at many lodges and restaurants.

There is also an option of water purification tablets, Aquatabs. You can put it in a water and drink it. You don’t have to mineral water after putting tablets in water.

Altitude mountain sickness and its prevention method

The maximum altitude that you will be reaching at Ghorepani Poonhill trek would be 3210 meters. You can go through a serious problem you have altitude sickness. There is no problem for young and healthy people to enjoy at Ghorepani Poonhill trek. But if you are not fit and healthy, then you can have a serious problem. It would be better to return immediately if you feel dizzy or several headaches.

How to Train for Ghorepani Poonhill Trek

Rehearsing on a daily basis to climb on high hills will increase your stamina and make you prepared for real climbing. Normal climbing of around 10-15 km will be best alternative. Likewise, Climbing the stairs of your home or building will make your thigh and calf strong.
